How to choose the best cannabis seeds

Find your cannabis seeds by answering these questions

You are about to start growing cannabis and you have been recommended Buddha Seeds, the cannabis seed bank specialised in the best selection of autoflowering genetics. But you go to their catalogue and ask yourself: which one should I choose? Where should I start? We have prepared some simple questions based on various criteria and priorities that you should take into account when making your decision. We’re sure you’ll make the right choice when choosing your Buddha Seeds strain.

Are you a beginner or an experienced grower?

The first thing to ask yourself when choosing your cannabis seeds is whether you are an experienced grower or if you are just starting out in cannabis cultivation. That is, if you are a novice, your choice will be subject to strains that do not require a lot of care. A good place to start is with indica strains, as they are generally strong and easy to grow.

In the Buddha Seeds catalogue you will find a wide range of indica-dominant strains, such as Pulsar (90%), Vesta, very resistant, Kraken or Morpheus (not autoflowering) and fast harvesting strains such as White Dwarf, Syrup or Red Dwarf. One of the advantages of autoflowering strains is their short growing period (about 60-75 days, depending on the variety grown).

One of our strongest and most resistant strains that we recommend for beginners as well as advanced growers is Deimos. This variety is an all-rounder, especially in mother soil, where it clings strongly to the soil and gains strength and vigour. On the other hand, Buddha Purple Kush in Autoflowering and Non-Autoflowering version is also very resistant.

  1. Are you thinking about growing cannabis seeds indoors or outdoors?

Another very important aspect that will determine the choice of your cannabis seeds is marked by the way you grow them: indoors or outdoors. Outdoor growers have a preference for fast-flowering strains, to avoid problems with frost, thieves and pests.

Indoor growers, on the other hand, opt for small, compact plants that will grow uniformly (i.e., light and space are used as efficiently and predictably as possible).

Luckily, all Buddha Seeds cannabis strains can be grown both outdoors and indoors, but as we want you to succeed in your crops, we recommend a selection of the most suitable for each case.

Marijuana seeds for indoor growing:

Any Buddha SeedsAutoflowering strain , as they have been developed for easy cultivation. For example, White Dwarf or Syrup, ideal for Sea of Green cultivation .

But be careful with Magnum ! It should not be grown in pots of more than 11 litres indoors because it becomes huge. Pulsar, Quasar and Kraken are not recommended for beginners indoors, because the height they can reach is uncontrollable.

Marijuana seeds for outdoor growing:

If you are going to grow in mother soil Magnum (Autoflowering) and Kraken (photodependent) are highly recommended .

If you are also looking for high yields and a fast harvest, Kraken is your choice.

  1. How much space do you have to plant?

This is a key question when you are setting up your indoor. Depending on how much space you have, you will plant more or less seeds. For this we recommend that you read this article on the 100 litre per square metre rule entitled How many cannabis plants will fit in my cupboard.

However, depending on whether they are sativas or indicas, the morphology of each will be different:

-Sativa seeds will produce taller plants with a long flowering time.

Indica seeds will produce shorter compact plants with a heavy yield of top quality buds. Indica flowering is short.

  1. What is the climate like where you live?

Another aspect to take into account is the dominant climate in the area you live in. That is to say, we will discard varieties that do not have the right climate conditions for the place where they are going to grow.

If the leaves have different sizes, it is due to the consistency of the sunlight. Larger leaves evolve in places with weak light, in order to absorb as much sunlight as possible. Thus, if you live in a climate where there is not much sunlight, or it is particularly weak, then you will have to choose a variety with a greater tendency to larger leaf size.

– Varieties recommended for hot climates

In hot climates you will need to take into account that the plant will be exposed to high temperatures and will require more attention to watering to prevent sunburn.

If you live in areas with warm climates you will be able to grow any of the Buddha Seeds strains without any problems. But keep in mind the importance of watering, do not overwater, but do not let them dry out either. For this we recommend reading this post: when to water cannabis plants.

– Varieties recommended for cold climates:

In case you are going to grow outdoors in cold climates, the plant will tend to grow shorter; it will focus all its energy on staying alive and not dying from the cold instead of getting power in the flowers. In this sense, Buddha Seeds strains have been tested in both cold and very cold outdoor climates with good results like Magnum.

Fortunately, Buddha Seeds marijuana seed bank has developed genetics that are very resistant to these types of climates. Some examples are: Medikit, Kraken, Magnum or Quasar.

  1. What kind of flavour do you like to smoke?

If you are one of those who appreciate the nuances in flavours, then this section is of special importance to you. At Buddha Seeds you will find a wide palette of flavours and smells.

This is a very personal matter and a matter of consumer taste. If you are into berry flavours then you can choose between Purple Kush or Red Dwarf. But if you prefer to appreciate refreshing citrus notes of grapefruit and tangerine then Vesta or Medikit is your choice. And the queen of sweetness par excellence: Syrup, a delicacy for those with a sweet tooth.

  1. How long do you want to wait to harvest?

For those who are ‘anxious’ and want to harvest as soon as possible, this is a very important point. Luckily at Buddha Seeds we know that time is a key factor and most of our strains are Autos. That is, they finish the rooting and growing cycle quicker and are less demanding on lighting requirements. These strains produce flowers in as little as two to three weeks, and are ready for harvest in about eight weeks. From the Buddha Seeds catalogue, White Dwarf and Syrup stand out in speed.

In addition, depending on whether they are indica or sativa, there are also differences:

Indica-dominant cannabis seeds take less time to harvest. Flowering usually takes seven to eight weeks after growth.

Sativa-dominant cannabis seeds need more time. Some original sativa strains may need up to 16 weeks to complete flowering. These gourmet plants need a great deal of consistency, care and protection from weather changes and pests. Luckily there are no strains in the Buddha Seeds catalogue that need more than 70 days of flowering time.

  1. What kind of effect/ high are you looking for?

Back to the indica/sativa distinction. In general, indica cannabis strains tend to have a relaxing effect. In this sense, we recommend Purple Kush, Syrup and Red Dwarf, with a narcotic effect.

But if you are looking for a more euphoric effect, you should choose sativa strains. Vesta and Calamity Jane do not disappoint with their potent ‘high’.

In recent years, medical cannabis strains with a high CBD content are proliferating, as this cannabinoid has no psychoactive effect. Aware of the market demand Buddha Seeds has opted for medical cannabis with Medikit, in Auto and Non Auto version. This variety has high levels of CBD (up to 20% in some individuals) and is ideal for extractions. Its therapeutic properties include stress and anxiety management and helps to lift your mood.

However, the benefits of medical cannabis do not only lie in CBD, but THC also has a great effect in alleviating the symptoms of diseases or disorders such as sclerosis, asthma, insomnia, anxiety, chronic pain, among others. Both THC and CBD form the perfect couple in cannabis therapy, i.e. they work best together. CBD and THC interact synergistically to enhance the healing qualities of each other. This is the basis of the well-known entourage effect .

Plants that contain a balanced ratio of THC and CBD (1:1) have the therapeutic advantages of both components, such as inhibiting the nerve signals associated with pain, producing a calming effect.

Nowadays we can find this kind of strains in many seed banks. From Buddha Seeds we have managed to stabilize the ratios of THC and CBD in a 1:1 ratio, higher than 20% of total cannabinoids in some individuals. The result is called Morpheus.

The experience with Morpheus is pleasurable and introspective and reminds us of the mythological saying ‘to be in the arms of Morpheus’, god of dreams.

Morpheus invites you to immerse yourself in a psychic excursion without losing lucidity. Its psychoactive effect is moderate without giving up rich flavours and intense aromas.
